Task

Each year, the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste publishes a digital annual report with a fresh design. For the 2023 edition, only the frontend was to be redesigned — the backend structure had already been set. The given theme was Begegnung (Encounter), and the challenge was to translate the theme into the front-end design so it would evoke curiosity to engage more with the numbers of the Jahresbericht.

Solution

I interpreted “encounter” as a direct interaction between user and page: the cursor triggers moving circles that animate across the site and gradually reveal the landing page. This interaction concept shaped the entire experience. With a clear focus on visual and interaction design, I developed the color scheme, typography, and micro-interactions to bring the existing structure to life. Custom cursors, soft mouseovers, and a visually bold palette create a quiet, playful rhythm between user and interface – making the Jahresbericht both accessible and expressive.Best experienced on desktop for full interaction.
